- Koch and Boehm Deliver in Silver
- Green and Cravon Double Up in Pro-Am
- Postins and Clay Win on Home Soil
- Provisional Race 1 Results
Race 1 of the Pirelli GT4 America weekend at VIRginia International Raceway was a true test for the full field of competitors in the face of unpredictable summer weather. What began as a standard one-hour contest quickly turned into a race against time, and the elements, as lightning delays and a severely shortened green flag window forced drivers and teams to adapt on the fly.
With only six minutes of actual green-flag racing at the end, Race 1 became a flat-out sprint that ultimately saw Random Vandals Racing and BimmerWorld get rewarded.
Silver Class
The shortened race brought the Silver class battle straight to the boil. Marc Miller in the No. 37 Dome Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 and Kenton Koch in the No. 97 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO were locked in an immediate duel when racing resumed. On the first green lap, just five minutes from the finish, Koch made a decisive move to grab the class lead, continuing his stellar weekend form.
Tyler Gonzalez in the No. 68 RAFA Racing Team Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO was hot on Miller’s heels and attempted a pass in the closing moments, but couldn’t make it stick.
Post-race, Miller was assessed a 1.28-second time penalty for a short pit stop, but still retained second place, marking Dome Motorsport’s first podium finish of the season. Koch and teammate Kevin Boehm took the win, while Gonzalez and Gresham Wagner settled for third.
“I mean, every time Kenton is behind the wheel, he makes our jaws drop,” exclaimed Kevin Boehm. “I think we sometimes do come to expect it, but it's incredible to be teamed up with him and see him do what he does best. We didn't have a lot of time to make anything of that race, and we did it.”
“It was pretty good,” said Kenton Koch. “I really felt bad after qualifying today. I backed it into the guardrail, but thankfully didn’t cause a red. I needed to make it up to the guys today. I am very thankful for Nate and John, for working on this thing, and to Pete for doing a beautiful job on the rear wrap on the bumper. Kevin did a good job keeping it on track when it was raining at the beginning. I just can't thank the team enough for giving us a car to go for it. It was a blast!”
Pro-Am Class
It was a perfect performance from Josh Green and Sam Craven in the No. 94 Random Vandals Racing BMW, adding a Pro-Am class victory to the team’s Silver class triumph. Their pit execution proved untouchable even amid the compressed race window.
Riley Dickinson and Curt Swearingin brought the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport home in second, while Tyler McQuarrie and James Walker Jr. collected yet another podium for BimmerWorld in the No. 82 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, continuing their consistent run in 2025.
“I didn't have much to do with the mayhem, I think I was ahead of it,” explained Josh Green. “The car was very good. I think everyone was probably taking a gamble on the setup, wondering whether to go on wet or dry tires before the race. Everyone seemed to do the same thing. Shout out to the series for making it equal with the pit stops. I know most of the teams here aren't necessarily used to doing pit stops, so that's good for them. Sam's mega single lap really did it for us.”
“I think everyone behaved pretty well,” said Sam Craven. “Well for my one lap, I passed a few people. It was fun.”
Am Class
The standout wet-weather drive came from Charlie Postins in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4 EVO, who put on a masterclass in the rain, not only winning the Am class but also finishing inside the overall Top 10, a big achievement in such treacherous conditions.
Kenny Schmied brought home second in class in the No. 72 RAFA Racing Toyota Supra alongside teammate Anthony Geraci, while Lucas Catania and Joseph Catania and the No. 17 Rigid Speed Company BMW completed the podium.
“James handed me an immaculate car,” expressed Charlie Postins. “His stint was just amazing. He really pulled it all out, handed me an amazing car. It was a little dicey up there. I got the message pretty quickly that my nearest competitor was out of the game, so it was just about conserving and getting it to the end. We're just happy that the car's here all in one piece and ready to go tomorrow.”
“It changed pretty fast by the time we were in the uphill,” recalled James Clay. “I said we've got some weather that's going to cause a grip issue and by the time we hit Oak Tree, we had grip issues. Kudos to the whole crew really, because on the back straight, everybody was super reasonable. Nobody tried to hero into Turn 14, which could have easily been the case. Everybody kept it clean and it was a weird short stint, but we qualified well and we executed. We'll take it!”
