SRO Motorsports Group upholds environmental commitment with support for projects around the globe

SRO Motorsports Group has upheld its longstanding environmental commitment this year by lending its support to a diverse set of projects around the globe. The company has maintained 100 percent carbon neutrality in 2025, a status it first achieved in 2024, and continues to focus on reducing its impact and encouraging best practices from partners, competitors and stakeholders alike.

This work has been facilitated by three different carbon credit providers and project developers, all of which are verified by international carbon registries. SRO has backed five technology-focussed initiatives, while three are nature-based projects. This ratio reflects the latest research, which shows that technological innovation plays a crucial role in both mitigating and adapting to climate change by reducing emissions, enhancing resilience and, at times, even reversing some of the negative climate change impacts. Some technology-based projects also prevent greenhouse gases from being released into the atmosphere.

Asia is of great important to SRO, with a significant number of events staged across the continent annually. Recognising this, it has supported a tropical wind project in Thailand, supporting the installation of 30 advanced turbine generators in a region that relies heavily on fossil-fuel powered electricity. In China, SRO has lent its backing to the distribution of 50,000 solar cookers to rural households in Zhenping County, Henan Province, replacing the polluting coal-fired stoves previously used.

The United States is also a key location for the company. Here, SRO has supported a project focussed on the reclamation of hydrofluorocarbons from refrigeration and air conditioning units. By recovering and reusing these potent greenhouse gases, the project reduces emissions and supports the circular economy within the refrigeration industry.

In terms of events, Europe remains SRO’s most important region. There has been support for the Saint Nikola wind farm in Bulgaria, which produces electricity from a renewable energy source, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the region and reducing reliance on fossil fuel. SRO has also maintained its support for a methane recovery project in the Netherlands.

In terms of nature-based projects, SRO has continued to back biological diversity protection in the Crowes Lookout and Budgerum areas of Australia, safeguarding some 1000m2 of critical habitat for biodiversity. A forest conservation project in Peru has helped to conserve almost 300,000 hectares of rainforest through sustainable Brazil nut harvesting, empowering local communities and biodiversity. SRO has also supported reforestation work in Tanzania, helping to plant trees on fire-ravaged grasslands in the country's south-west region.

"I am very proud that we have maintained our 100 percent carbon neutral promise this year," said Stéphane Ratel, the founder and CEO of SRO Motorsports Group. "Technology-based projects have played a particularly important role. Given our longstanding presence in the motorsport industry, we have seen first-hand the potential of technological developments and believe that they can be of enormous benefit in the fight against climate change. It is also important that we retain a presence on six continents, with particular focus on the regions in which we are most active."

Among the other initiatives implemented by SRO, a 100 percent biofuel has been used in GT World Challenge Europe and GT World Challenge Asia since 2024. Produced by TotalEnergies using waste and residues, especially from the wine industry, this results in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions over its life cycle. The use of sustainable materials and implementing food donation actions at events are also part of SRO’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact and foster a positive approach to sustainability.
