Strong Showing from BMW in Practice 2 at COTA

The Pirelli GT4 America field rolled into Practice 2 at Circuit of The Americas on Friday afternoon, taking on the fast, flowing curves of the Texas track for their final practice session ahead of Saturday’s Qualifying. Teams utilized their 45-minute window to make their final adjustments, dialing in setups for one of the most technically demanding tracks on the calendar, however, a red flag in the final five minutes of the session due to inclement weather, bringing the session to an early close. 

Action was intense across all three classes, with familiar names rising to the occasion as Random Vandals Racing went fastest overall and in Pro-Am, while JMF Motorsports claimed the top spot in the Silver class, and Thunder Bunny Racing went quickest again in the Am category.

Silver Class

In Practice 2, JMF Motorsports continued their strong performance, this time with Jesse Webb securing the top spot in the Silver class behind the wheel of the No. 3 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO. 

Zac Anderson followed closely, claiming second place in class for Auto Technic Racing in the No. 52 BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO, while Kevin Boehm rounded out the top 3 for Random Vandals Racing with the No. 97 BMW entry. 

JMF Motorsports made a second appearance in the top 5 with the No. 4 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO finishing fourth in class with Mike David Ortmann and Braydon Arthur as co-drivers, just ahead of the No. 26 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO from the Heart of Racing Team’s Hannah Grisham and Hannah Greenemeier. 

Pro-AM Class

The Pro-Am class saw a fierce battle between BMW machines, with the top two positions in class, and overall, claimed by teams representing the same manufacturer. Random Vandals Racing’s Sam Craven took the class and overall lead aboard the No. 94 BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO, while Nate Cicero followed closely in second in the No. 28 Fast Track Racing BMW. 

James Walker Jr. held third in class and fourth overall with the No. 82 BimmerWorld BMW until he was overtaken by Thomas Merrill in the No. 15 Archangel Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO with just over ten minutes remaining, dropping Walker Jr. to fourth. Rounding out the top 5 were Michael Auriemma and Matheus Leist in the No. 23 NOLASPORT Porsche Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

Am Class 

Thunder Bunny Racing continued to show their strengths in the Am class, with Allen Patten setting the fastest time once again after topping the charts in Practice 1. 

Charlie Postins of BimmerWorld claimed the second-fastest lap with 20 minutes remaining in the session with his No. 36 BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO, while the No. 98 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4, driven by Michael Kanisczak, moved into third just before rain arrived with five minutes left on the clock. 

Dave Ogburn secured fourth in class in the No. 188 Fast Track Racing BMW, with Kenny Schmied completing the top 5 in the No. 72 RAFA Racing Team Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO2.

The Pirelli GT4 America field will return to the track for Qualifying on Saturday morning, April 26th at 10:25 AM CT.
